Bali Travel Hacks – Skip the Lines with Pre-Arrival Tips

Bali travel hacks

Let’s be real – waiting in long lines is nobody’s idea of a good time. If you’re anything like me, you’d rather spend those precious moments soaking up the sun on a beach or exploring the streets of Ubud. I want to share some tips that made me skip the cues. And trust me, taking 10-15 minutes now will pay off when you fly through customs instead of staring at the back of someone’s head in line.

First things first! As the rules and regulations keep changing all the time, please check this page for the latest information about traveling to Bali: https://bali.com/bali/bali-visa-indonesia-entry-regulations/

Visa on Arrival vs. Evisa

Visa on Arrival (VoA) is available for most countries. This visa is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days at the Immigration office.

However, let me tell you from experience – those lines for VoA can be massive. Remember Bali is one of the most popular travel destinations in Asia.

That’s why even if you’re eligible for a Visa on Arrival, doing Evisa beforehand can save you much time and hassle. It’s super easy – you can complete your visa application online before you even leave home. Trust me, it’s a game-changer. This will take you about 10-15 minutes compared to hours waiting in line at the airport.

Plus, if you need to extend your stay, you can easily do it online without having to waste time going to the Immigration office.

Be Aware of Scam Websites!

Please, please please always make sure you’re using the official website for visa applications like this one: https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/.

Special Visa Requirements:

If your country is not on the list for a visa on arrival, you’ll need a B211 (business) visa to enter Indonesia. This visa allows you to stay in Indonesia for 60 days, extendable up to 6 months. The process takes approximately 15 working days and costs around US$260. Please find a trusted visa agent who can assist you with this visa.

Tourist Tax and Customs Regulation

Since February 2024, there has been a new tourist tax in Indonesia for tourists. It costs 150,000 IDR (roughly 9€). Get more information and pay the tourist tax here: https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id/home.

Now, onto customs: When you arrive at the airport, you must register on the customs portal here. This will give you a QR code they request when you leave the airport. Doing this at home saves time and hassle.

Getting a Taxi

As you leave the airport, you’ll be greeted by a bunch of Balinese offering you a taxi. While not all of them are scams, there’s a high chance you might get ripped off. I recommend downloading Grab – it’s like Bolt or Uber. It offers fixed prices, and you can pay by card.

Grab even has a lounge in the airport. Simply follow their app’s guidelines (super easy or ask for help). While you wait, you can relax in the air-conditioned lounge. When your taxi arrives, THEY will come to the lounge, call out your name, and guide you to your ride. They might even help you with your bags! Talk about service!

If you have a longer drive ahead and prefer a trustworthy Bali driver, feel free to message me! I can connect you with someone reliable.

Safe travels, and here’s to less time waiting in lines and more time creating memories that will last a lifetime!
